Next time I will tell you what I am dead sure about this. I'll tell you what He said!
Scriptures on Warfare - CONFIRMATION!
I said “God if this is really what you have for me please give me overwhelming evidence”. I then searched for random verses in the Bible to confirm it. One verse after another was about war, conflict and how man relied on God for his victory. Here is a list of verses in the order they came up
(I included shorter sections here):
Do not fret because of evildoers or be envious of the wicked, [20] for the evildoer has no future hope, and the lamp of the wicked will be snuffed out.
After all that Hezekiah had so faithfully done, Sennacherib king of Assyria came and invaded Judah. He laid siege to the fortified cities, thinking to conquer them for himself.
Her gates have sunk into the ground; their bars he has broken and destroyed. Her king and her princes are exiled among the nations, the law is no more, and her prophets no longer find visions from the Lord.
Israel has rejected what is good; an enemy will pursue him. They set up kings without my consent; they choose princes without my approval. With their silver and gold they make idols for themselves to their own destruction.
All along I had been thinking about a certain verse in the Old Testament that I could not recall. Something about five chasing a hundred and a hundred chasing ten thousand. The next verse that came up was it!
[30] How could one man chase a thousand, or two put ten thousand to flight, unless their Rock had sold them, unless the Lord had given them up? [31] For their rock is not like our Rock, as even our enemies concede.
I had been thinking about all along and, out of the blue, here it was. The funny thing is that I was actually thinking about
Five of you will chase a hundred, and a hundred of you will chase ten thousand, and your enemies will fall by the sword before you.
Not knowing that this other one existed and sure enough it came through nevertheless as if to reinforce my revelation.
I continued to search for random verses:
[13] his archers surround me. Without pity, he pierces my kidneys and spills my gall on the ground. [14] Again and again he bursts upon me; he rushes at me like a warrior.
“But all who devour you will be devoured; all your enemies will go into exile. Those who plunder you will be plundered; all who make spoil of you I will despoil.”
“Look, your house is left to you desolate. I tell you, you will not see me again until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.”
When Rehoboam arrived in Jerusalem, he mustered Judah and Benjamin---a hundred and eighty thousand able young men---to go to war against Israel and to regain the kingdom for Rehoboam.
“The Lord your God will certainly make a lasting dynasty for my lord, because you fight the Lord’s battles, and no wrongdoing will be found in you as long as you live. [29] Even though someone is pursuing you to take your life, the life of my lord will be bound securely in the bundle of the living by the Lord your God, but the lives of your enemies he will hurl away as from the pocket of a sling.”
I think this was enough. Never before had Scripture spoken so loudly, accurately and so extensively to me. Alright, I'm embarking on a new project!
World History - USING the NATURAL GIFTS
I had no idea that my great love for learning and history would be the gift and the fuel God would use for me during this season.
Unlike President
Roosevelt President
Truman would always put a great deal of energy into the decision making, pondering over an issue for days on end. Another advantage he brought to the table was his love of history. Since he was a small child he had read extensively about world leaders and military history. In his decision-making he would look for a historical precedent in world events as a guideline. This he did in 1948 when deciding about the State of Israel issue. Truman disappeared for three days and we know that he read the Bible. It seems that God chose that most unlikely of presidents from the start when he placed the love of history and study into Truman's heart as a boy decades earlier.
What Does God Say About War - The MANDATE and PURPOSE
Why study prophecy? So that we are not deceived.
“Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will deceive many. You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come.
Many Christians think Jesus is saying not to concern ourselves with these signs. Well the fact is if God didn’t want us to keep tabs on the end times He wouldn’t have sent these signs. Also, Scripture isn’t saying to ignore it but merely not to worry about it.
“Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come."
In fact we should know about prophecy and keep in touch with the Middle East because this will let us know where there is false prophecy, where the enemy is and where Christ is.
So it was clear that I should go through the bible to show God’s hand in military victory.
This is why my wife Carol said to go a step further and extend this to military history of the 20th Century involving the Jewish people and Israel.
The purpose of this is to show God is still in operation today; that God will be there with us in the end times and we must not fear. When tribulation comes, whether we're in heaven or on earth, we are to be with the father's power and not our own.
Holy War in the Bible - FAIRY TALES?
In some of these battles we see God’s people stand against an enemy one hundred or a thousand times their number. This is almost as impossible to accept in the natural as victory in that battle. Certainly there are no official military accounts of such battles elsewhere in history, even on the ones where the numbers have been greatly exaggerated.
I have decided to believe that the Bible battles are 100% true. While I have no concern whether the readers of my summaries believe them or not I nevertheless like to supply some form of explanation in this area.
Spiritual Warfare - PARALLEL with REVIVALS
Let us consider, for a moment, the stories of revivals
. Revivals where a few dozen people ha
d an impact on a whole city. Such is the
Argentine revival of 1949. Here, 50 students in revival
commenced a move of God which influence
d the future of the entire nation
. I suggest you read into this further.)
If people accept what happens in a revival they can more easily accept what the bible says about some of these miraculous decisive battles. God can do anything He wants in any way He wants. Nevertheless, there is almost always a trace of His working. This is why it is pertinent that we expect to find small signs of this in the Bible accounts or, later, in scientific sources such as archaeology. For instance, we know have proof that the walls of Jericho fell outwards instead of inwards (see this battle later).
God Will Fight for You - VICTORY BEFORE THE FIGHTING
When a small number of Hebrew soldiers manage to beat a massively greater opposing force there are many factors that are not mentioned in the accounts. Maybe if we knew some of these factors the victory would be ever more clear to us. If we knew them we would say “ha ha! I see now”.
One theory I like to entertain is, for instance, that many of the enemy soldiers just couldn't fight because of the holiness in the conflict. God
’s soldiers were willing to fight and
He brought supernatural force to the battlefield
. My opinion is that m
uch of the enemy retreated and the ones that remained
– which were still
of vast superior number
s – met defeat by the actual physical fighting. It is just a theory but it puts these miracles and a perspective more
understandable militarily.
The God of War - NO APOLOGY NEEDED
As I said, my mandate is not to have an apologetic report of the battle. I’m merely making a few points: that
(a) the Bible has never been proven wrong
(b) we don’t know everything
(c) things make sense in the natural more often than we think.
The key thing I want to bring across is that These battles, miraculous or not, are but reflections of what took place in the spiritual battle where the enemy is overwhelming the people of God. What happens in the Old Testament is the same on the actual battlefield. In the process, I like to have as much fun as possible with detailed maps and refreshing military accounts that would attract not just the believer but anyone on the market for a good story!
